The IET is the professional society for the engineering and technology community.
The idea of the refurbishment of their building was to allow London’s most technologically advanced 90,000sq ft to have world class facilities, for events and conferencing, exhibitions as well as administration facilities, for its 150,000 members.
Mastercraft Construction worked on the roofing and joisting aspect of the prestigious project, as well as the interior joinery.
The internal joinery work package mainly consisted of the supply and fit of bespoke doors, ironmongery, office partitions and timber screens. All of these items were of the highest quality, to fit with the existing fabric of the building.
Some of the doors had to be copies of existing doors and sit beside those examples. These were painstakingly recreated, in a short period, by highly skilled craftsmen and are almost indistinguishable from the originals. Other doors had to be refurbished, to bring them back to their former glory. When the project was completed, the new and the old merged seamlessly together, giving the building its original warmth but with an updated feel.
The roofing element was carefully carried out by experienced tradesmen. It was built to the high spec design, agreed by the planners, so it would fit neatly with the neighbouring structures. The roof consisted of timber rafters, fixed and lined on a metal frame and finally finished with welsh slate.
